Performance-Based Tuning for a Model Predictive Direct Power Control in a Grid-Tied Converter With L-Filter

Model predictive control (MPC) is a powerful and widely used technique to address the challenges in power converters as grid interface for renewable energy systems. This combines closed-loop with error effort minimization; however, its design challenging, we know little about how controller parameters affect performance of grid-connected voltage source converters. In this study, applied an MPC direct modulation converter inductive filter. For design, proposed initial set based on converter’s nominal setup. Then, define range settings guarantee stability by analyzing poles system. The fine-tuning improve can be identified visually using maps built from simulations system, simultaneously sweeping time horizons model weight factors cost function. Experimental results low-power bench demonstrate excellent designed controller, following even outperforming classical proportional-integral (PI) other advanced techniques.
